When I graduated high school, the salutatorian was generous to include my name in her graduation speech. She listed examples about where we will end up now that we have graduated, and for me she mentioned I would write a great novel and live in Paris. It was commonly known among my classmates that I wanted to grow up and be a writer. Well, I’m still not quite sure about the grown-up part, the living in Paris dream certainly changed, but I never quite gave up on having a published book.
Last month I really thought this life long goal was put on hold indefinitely. I shared that disappointment with my readers in October’s post, Demon in the Shadows. I thought it was not the right time, and well, last month wasn’t the right time.
I think we often console ourselves when things don’t go our way or come as soon as we want them to with the saying “It’s not on our time table, but God’s.” I agree 100% we do not operate, or succeed, on our version of milestones, and God’s timeline is far superior. At least in my case, when I have used this saying I’m envisioning His time table a long time from when I wanted it in that moment. Certainly not waiting just a few short weeks! One door was closed, and a better one was waiting right around the corner (per usual), but this door came faster than my downhearted spirit could have imagined!
This isn’t going to be a long post, but I did want to share the good news that my first poetry collection, Unsent Letters, is available in paperback online at Barnes and Noble. The link for my book can be found at the end of this post, or under the “Other Works” tab on this site if you’d like to check it out.
The significance of when this book is coming out is also very special and personal to me. November and December have been hard months for me in the past, as you will discover if you choose to read my book; however, throughout those difficult moments, God has restored the broken parts of my story over and over. God continues to amaze me with the wonderful blessings He provides each day, and this was a really big one today. As soon as I had hit the “put on sale” button, He has given me many ideas for more poems, future blogs, maybe some fiction pieces, and others works to share in the years to come.
Of course, I’d love it if my book sells well, but I also will be content if no more than my family buys a copy. I’m just very thankful for this opportunity and the ability to literally finish this chapter of my life. When I first started writing poetry, I had no idea what it would become, and after many years the final product has arrived. It will proudly sit on my shelf as a testament to the fact God not only gives us what we need, but He also cares for us, including our desires and dreams too.
Thank you to all who take the time to read my writing. I truly appreciate it!
